Start early?
“Have regrets. They are fuel. On the page they flare into desire.”
The Guardian have asked a bunch of major writers to list their golden rules for writing fiction, which I found very interesting and amusing, even if I’m just a reader. Maybe because writers most often are very interesting and amusing. Enright and Winterson sound pretty spot on (or how about “the first 12 years are the worst”?), as does Franzen and Morpurgo. And what can you say of Philip Pullman? Nothing sweet, that’s for sure.
Also over at the Guardian; interview with Anna Maxwell Martin (of Bleak House; for me, Esther is AMM, just as much as Lady Deadlock is Gillian Anderson) whom I am hoping to get to see in Measure for Measure soon (hoping btw? Like it depended on anything else except me booking myself a ticket. You know, it’s not so much my laziness that surprises me, but my extraordinary ability to pretend that it wasn’t up to me anyway, as if external forces were to blame.).
